Conclusion
Because it is a more compact and computationally efficient representation than a Mamdani system, the Sugeno system lends itself to the use of adaptive techniques for constructing fuzzy models. These adaptive techniques can be used to customize the membership functions so that the fuzzy system best models the data.

The MATLAB command-line function mam2sug can be used to convert a Mamdani system into a Sugeno system (not necessarily with a single output) with constant output membership functions. It uses the centroid associated with all of the output membership functions of the Mamdani system. See "Function Reference" for details.
